On February 8th 2018, the team behind Anne Frank: Let me be myself welcomed a crowd of 150 supporters, Holocaust survivors, MP's and local dignitaries to the opening of the exhibition at Auckland War Memorial Museum.

Held in in the Museum's award winning events centre, guests were able to hear speeches from exhibition chairman Boyd Klap, HCNZ chairman Jeremy Smith, Levien Rouw who represented Amsterdam's Anne Frank House and had travelled from Holland specially for this event, and Auckland Mayor Phil Goff who opened the event. Ophira Porrit, whose grandfather survived Auschwitz, also read from Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl.

Afterwards, guests were taken in groups by trained peer guides from St Kentigern's College to see the exhibition for the first time.

"We can be pleased with what we have achieved here tonight," said Levien Rouw. "The exhibition has been all over the world and it's wonderful to finally see it in New Zealand."

Exhibition chairman Boyd Klap agreed that this was a powerful opening event, and a great first location for the New Zealand tour. He thanked the Auckland Museum team for their hard work and dedication to the project.

The exhibition was featured in the New Zealand Herald, on stuff.co.nz, Seven Sharp and Newshub. Why not check out our media page to read more about coverage for yourself?
